This is necessary to plan FCS activities just prior to trapping at LGR when run forecasts are available, and to match more effectively with the Lyons Ferry - NPTHC FCS AOP process in September each year.
Submit a draft NPTHC AOP for upcoming AOP period to NPT RM&E and management staff along with BPA COR for review by July 1 each year.

G | 240254 | 176 | Produce Hatchery Fish | Salmon Production - BY23 Spring Chinook | Develop localized brood sources to supplement Lolo and Newsome creeks by propagating and releasing 225,000 spring Chinook fingerlings and 200,000 spring Chinook smolts into area streams.
Rear 200,000 smolts from Dworshak National Fish Hatchery at NPTH. Returning adults from this program (200,000 released in April from NPTH into the Clearwater River annually) will provide broodstock NPTHC SCS programs.
Beginning in January, provide early rearing at NPTH.
In April or early May transfer up to 225,000 SCS from NPTH to Sweetwater Springs facility for intermediate rearing.
In early September, transport 75,000 SCS pre-smolts from the Sweetwater Springs facility to the Newsome AF for final rearing and acclimation. The pre-smolts will be released into Newsome Creek in mid October at a size of 29 fish per pound (15.6 grams).
In early September, transport 150,000 SCS pre-smolts from the Sweetwater Springs facility to the Yoosa/Camp AF for final rearing and acclimation. The pre-smolts will be released into the confluence of Yoosa/Camp creeks in mid October at a size of 34 fish per pound (13.34 grams).
Continue to rear up to 200,000 SCS juveniles at NPTH that will be released in mid-April into Lolo Creek in BY+2 at a size of 20 fish per pound
Throughout the year, compile, record, store and report appropriate in-hatchery data internally, and via Pisces status reports, monthly and annual reports. Make operational improvements based on analysis of data. Share data with project R, M & E staff, comanagers and regional policy managers as appropriate. | $615,000 | 30.23% | 01/01/2024 | 12/31/2024 |
H | 240255 | 176 | Produce Hatchery Fish | Salmon Production - BY24 Spring Chinook | In April or early May, operate the permanent adult ladder and trap at NPTH to collect adult SCS. Beginning in May transport adults collected at weirs located on Lolo and Newsome creeks to NPTH, if returns to those streams are sufficient to support brood collection, as determined by NPTH M&E staff. If returns are not sufficient to support brood collection in project streams, broodstock will be provided by adults trapped at NPTH and from other Clearwater Basin hatcheries.
In August, spawn all SCS adults held at NPTH. Egg take goal to meet the entire SCS production goal of 425,000 is approximately 511,750 to account for rearing loss. Transfer fertilized eggs to incubation rooms at NPTH, where they are reared until swim up the following year. Fry will be transferred from incubation stacks to production tanks at approximately 1,270 fish per pound (.36 grams). | $50,000 | 2.46% | 01/01/2024 | 12/31/2024 |
I | 240256 | 176 | Produce Hatchery Fish | Salmon Production - BY24 Fall Chinook | Transport FCS from LGR to NPTH for holding and spawning, in accordance with the U. S. vs. Oregon Fall Fishery Agreement. Trapping at LGR begins in August based on water temperature at the dam, and typically ends by late November. The established goal of NPTH is to receive 30% of the adult trapped at LGR.
If necessary due to broodstock shortages or inability to trap at LGR, trap and hold FCS that enter the ladder at NPTH for spawning. The adult ladder and trap at NPTH may be operated to collect FCS adults from September through early December.
In October, November and early December, spawn ~920 FCS adults held at NPTH. Egg take goal is approximately 1,800,000 to account for rearing losses and BKD culling.
Incubate FCS eggs in heath trays until virology results are received (BKD ELISA testing is conducted on every female, and eggs from females with an ELISA value of 0.025 or higher may be culled). Eyed eggs within acceptable fish health standards are shocked, picked, and moved back into incubation rooms to hatch and "button up" prior to transfer to production tanks. Eyed eggs excess to program needs may be shipped to Lyons Ferry Hatchery.
Throughout the year, compile, record, store and report appropriate in-hatchery data internally, and via Pisces status reports, monthly and annual reports.
